The Story


Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is known well for its commitment to the Austin community. Not only do their teams volunteer with area schools and continue to make strides in sustainable practices, they have a policy to ensure that 90% of its vendors are local businesses—including us. AUS asked MODintelechy to pitch for the design and development of their annual Sustainability Report. Our ability to reflect their care of our shared community and relentless pursuit of excellence on every page confirmed the partnership.

The Work


We saw firsthand how AUS is seamlessly implementing sustainable initiatives and improving the overall passenger experience, which we may have otherwise missed as passengers ourselves. This research stage allowed us to see their efforts in action and helped further shape our approach. The report theme, Envisioning the Future, positioned the piece as a visualization of AUS’s master plan colored by their efforts to lead the airport and the industry into the next era. Our design combined modern linear elements, fluid organic touches, and data-driven graphics to reflect positioning and ensure their innovative practices came through visually. We also edited content for clarity to speak more directly to their vision and call attention to the steps taken to achieve it. Once in production, we selected specialized stocks—made from recycled materials—that would best support content and design to communicate AUS’s growth, groundedness, and trajectory to potential vendors and partners.
