Learning About Lynn

And just like that, we’ve added another member to our team. Please help us welcome MODintelechy’s UX Designer, Lynn! Read up on this artsy Austin-native in our Q & A below.

What sparked your interest in graphic design?
When I was younger, having an art-related career really wasn’t something I was gung-ho about. It wasn’t until I entered college that I considered it. I started to see how art and design could make an impact on everyday life when I was asked to help with a couple of startups. It opened my eyes to the positives and negatives of audience perception. It’s tough love to swallow, but I have a quote that always carries me along when things get prickly: “If I don’t worry about the minor details, then who will?” It resonated with me knowing that designers aren’t there just to make things look pretty; They help create things that change how people see the world – even if it’s in the itty bitty details. Every effort counts, so I really take it to heart.

If you weren’t a graphic designer, what career path would you choose?
During my time in college, I actually pursued an interest in game development and art production. I learned the ropes to do both 2D and 3D art and animation. I even have a small game out on Steam (online platform to play PC games – here’s some not-so-shameless advertising: http://store.steampowered.com/app/356520/). I’m still fascinated by the world of video games and what kind of narrative the player pieces together as they interact with the world, especially in the educational learning field. It’s an untapped realm filled with potential to explore, so if the stars aligned I would like to pursue that path again.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a homebody, so I tend to stay indoors more often than not. I occasionally play video games and like to try and cook/bake new recipes from time to time. When I do leave the house, I love shopping and bargain hunting. There’s so many treasures to find in stores here! I tend to hit up Half Price Books or other specialty shops to see what else I can add to my collection of puzzles and books.

You can’t live in Austin and not be a foodie? What are your favorite spots in the 512?
I love trying new cuisines and dishes so I’m definitely am an adventurous eater! I always encourage others to send me new recommendations, so I don’t usually have a go-to restaurant. What I can recommend are different desserts certain eateries have;) I like to recommend Salty Sow or Sway— both places have a great atmosphere! Salty Sow’s blood orange sorbet really hits the spot and Sway’s jasmine tea panna cotta is flavorful and light, just enough as a finisher for the night. You also can’t go wrong with Lick! Their flavors are always on-point and unique, and the seasonal flavors always has me coming back as a regular!

Aside from necessities, what is one thing you can’t go a day without?
As cliché as it sounds, I would say coffee. A coffee a day keeps the worries away! I love the taste of coffee and there’s so many flavors you can have. I don’t usually drink coffee for the caffeine, so it’s more for the flavor when I do. Appropriately, I like coffee shop-hopping around town and would recommend going to Tea Haus or Summer Moon for a sweet treat. Feel free to send me some recommendations!
